Program Facets
The Links, Incorporated has five facets that encompass the organization’s programming. They are Services to Youth, The Arts, National Trends and Services, International Trends and Services and Health and Human Services.
Services to Youth
Services to Youth is the first facet The Links, Incorporated, created. It is an integrated approach to preparing young people to succeed in the 21st century workforce. Pittsburgh Links are very active in services to youth, including serving as mentors to students at the city’s Westinghouse High School.
The Arts
The Links, Incorporated has supported the arts for many years. The organization’s co-founder, Margaret Roselle Hawkins, was a talented artist and art teacher, and was influential in the creation of this program facet. The Pittsburgh Links continue to promote the arts by presenting local and national artists to the Pittsburgh community. Pittsburgh Links also encourage students to participate in the organization’s National Poster Art Contest.
National Trends & Services
The vision of the National Trends and Services facet is to eliminate disparities by reducing barriers to services through advocacy, education, and service. One of the many National Trends and Services programs of the Pittsburgh Links is a three-year project with students at Westinghouse school. The goal of the program is to increase grade point averages, reduce the number of school absences and foster a love of reading.
International Trends & Services
Servicing the needs of people of African descent throughout the world is part of the International Trends and Services facet. The Pittsburgh Links play an important role in this facet. Members have prepared survival kits to send to Haiti. In addition, the chapter has sent books and educational supplies to children and schools in Africa.
Health & Human Services
Health and Human Services is the newest of The Links, Incorporated’s five facets. This new facet brings greater focus, resources, and coordination to The Links, Incorporated’s health initiatives already in existence.
