Young Master Writers Program (YMWP)
The Young Master Writers Program (YMWP) is a national competition developed to encourage creative writing excellence among high school students. The competition's goal is to ultimately combat the era of shorthand communications, e.g., texting and social media, and to encourage our young generation to write. Click the buttons below to read a letter from the President of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Links, Inc. about the program and for more resources within the handy toolkit.
Who should apply?
High school students interested in creative writing and/or poetry. Why apply? The YMWP encourages student participation, pride, and achievement in creative writing. It is designed to enhance, promote, and display student creative writing talents in published volumes. We edited 4 volumes containing poetry and prose culled from nearly one thousand student submissions. Ninety-nine students are now published authors. We look forward to expanding our partnerships with schools, libraries, and other non-profit and community organizations through our program. What to submit? Refer to the toolkit for more information. When is the submission deadline? The entry deadline is March 1, 2022, at 5 p.m. EST. Students may submit original and previously unpublished poetry and prose on subjects of their choosing. We do not accept works with profanity or explicit sexual content. The three winners will be selected to submit their work to compete in the national competition. Winners will receive a cash prize and a certificate of achievement. |
